Inflation in state capitalism (and the recent Brazilian experience)
Luiz Carlos Bresser-Pereira
Brazilian Journal of Political Economy
https://doi.org/10.1590/0101-31571981-2003

Inflation passed from a purely monetary phenomenon to an intrinsic part of the
modern economic system. This paper aims to perform a general analysis of the new inflationary
processes, particularly the “administered inflation” from economic agents with market
power, the “compensatory inflation” to remunerate capital, and the “corrective inflation”,
produced by the state when trying to correct the distortions caused by the economic
policy.

The concept of mark up in distribution and growth models
Luiz Antonio de Oliveira Lima
Brazilian Journal of Political Economy
https://doi.org/10.1590/0101-31571981-2043

This paper aims to discuss some issues related to post-Keynesian growth and
distribution models and how the introduction of the concept of mark-up can contribute as
an alternative to the distribution model and become a key feature to build a growth model.
We part from the assumption that Harrod’s analysis does not mention any contribution to
explaining distribution. Kaldor aims to eliminate such limitations through the non-realistic
assumption that the economy is always operating under full employment. We show how the
introduction of mark-up can be a solution to this issue.

Relations between the European Economic Community and Latin America in the context of a global economic crisis
Miguel S. Wionczek
Brazilian Journal of Political Economy
https://doi.org/10.1590/0101-31571981-2067

The European Community and the Latin America regions have economic and
political relations that should be considered in the broader context of international relations
of industrialized western countries and the developing world. To explain such dynamics, this
paper is divided into three parts: i) the integration of Latin American countries, ii) the policies
from the European Community in integrating with developing countries, iii) the necessary
conditions for such integration to be beneficial to both parties.

brought forward by Arghiri Emmanuel.

Michal Kalecky and the contemporary economics
Antonio Jaime Jobim
Brazilian Journal of Political Economy
https://doi.org/10.1590/0101-31571981-2111

Michal Kalecki provided important developments in contemporary economic
theory by showing how to determine effective demand from Marx’s texts. He developed
an endogenous model of economic fluctuations and of income distribution in the short run.
This paper is an assessment of Kalecki’s contributions and the inspirations for the development
of his work.

The classics revisited
Rolf Kuntz
Brazilian Journal of Political Economy
https://doi.org/10.1590/0101-31571981-2146

From the pioneering works of Robinson, Dobb, and Meek, classical political
economy went through a phase of new appreciation by contemporary economists. This article
points out traces and amplifies this reassessment, including highlighting the contributions
of Brazilian theorists.
